Polish Presidency

Culture is a common good – it is a universal language that allows us to understand each other and form bonds. It plays a key role in shaping identity and is a bridge between various generations, nations and perspectives. The cultural programme of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be a symbol of dialogue, diversity and joint work for the future. We will focus on young artists, but also respond to the technological challenges of the audiovisual market. The motto of the Presidency, which will last until 30 June 2025, reads ‘Security, Europe!’

By assuming the role of a leader in the field of culture, we invite Europe to a dialogue based on mutual respect, showing our heritage as an integral part of the community. Over the next six months, Poland will be building a network of cultural cooperation and develop an international dialogue both internationally and through domestic activities. Below are listed the priorities of the cultural programme of the Polish Presidency:

  1. Young creators – the future of European culture
By focusing on young talents, we will work on:
     - supporting the launch of careers in the creative sectors,
     - supplementing the law in this area by means of conclusions,
     - changing and developing tools with the Creative Europe Programme. Within the framework of the perspective for 2021–2027, we would like to discuss the report on the present functioning of the programme and share some suggestions for the shape of the new Creative Europe Programme, which will be implemented after 2027.
  2. Modern regulations for the audiovisual sector
Due to the dynamically changing audiovisual market, the legal regulations should be adjusted for them to effectively respond to the challenges of modern technology and media consumption. In the EU Council, Poland will discuss key aspects of the revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), the evaluation of which is planned by the European Commission at the end of 2026.

The National Centre for Culture Poland coordinates the national cultural programme of the Polish Presidency on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, while the international cultural programme of the Polish Presidency is implemented by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute under the motto ‘Culture sparks unity’ in over 20 countries in Europe.
